Salem is a well developed industrialized area. Salem is famous for Stainless steel, handloom textiles and magnasite industries. The availably of raw material is the reason why many industries are blooming in Salem. Salem city is surrounded by mountains. There are two temples which are located in the centre of the Salem namely Sugavaneswarar and Kottai Marriamman Temple. In Salem near the Collectorate office there is Museum which is of historic significance.

    Salem

    Salem is a well developed industrial city. There are many Stainless steel industries. Salem is famous for a variety of Mangoes. The mangoes produced in Salem are being exported to other countries. There are many places in Tiruchy which is of historic importance and it is also a suitable picnic spot. The two famous temples are Kottai Marriamman temple and Sugavaneswarar Temple. Tharamangalam is situated near to Salem. It is 27 kms away from Salem. There is one famous temple here named Kailasanathar Temple which is famous for beautiful statues, sculpture and stone carvings. The walls and roofs of the temples are carved with figures of monkey, fish and tortorise. Mettur Dam is a picnic spot which is 52 kms from Salem. It is the major water source which provides water to Trichy, Erode and Thanjavur Districts. There is a beautiful park opposite to this dam which has a nice lawn and different kinds of plants which attracts the children and adult visitors
